Is Talent Born or Created in Ballroom and Dancesport?

Many times during my dance career, both as a dancer and also as a dance teacher and mental trainer, I’ve heard things like this: “That one is a very talent dancer, he has a big future ahead.” and “She is naturally good for dancesport. She has a lot of talent”. However many times, those very talent kids, after a while, went away from the dancesport world, or didn’t become such great dancers as others supposed to.

So I start asking myself this question – Is talent something that is born with you, natural to you, it is in your genes? Or is talent something that you can create, work for and become?

In this video, I show you what I think about this (and what many other sports psychologists in the world also agree). I also show you the good news in the case you are NOT a “talent” dancer.
